Kindergarten News

We took our district wide assessment in December.  This assessment is taken three times a year, fall, winter and spring.  Results from this assessment will come home with your child’s progress report on Friday, January 5th.

Please send a jacket!

The cold weather is here!  Please send a jacket with your child to school everyday.  We will continue to go outside as weather permits!  That means 32 degrees or warmer so bundle up.

Reading

Your child will continue to bring home leveled readers in their “book bag”.   Please have your child read their leveled reader to you and complete the activity for each night.  Please make sure to sign the form in the bag.  Please return the book bag in your child’s Communication Folder.

Writing

Your child should be working on correct letter formation when writing letters, words and/or sentence(s).  We are also working hard on sounding out (stretching out the word) simple cvc words (consonant vowel consonant) such as cat, map, pig, hen, etc.  These skills need to be used daily in their work at school as well as their homework at home.

Sight Words

At this time your child has been introduced to over half of the sight words.  Please review these sight words with your child on a daily basis.  The standard on the report card requires your child to read within text, identify in isolation and write (without a model) the presented sights words.  A few ways to practice at home include: rainbow write, write 3 times each, build words with magnetic letters, go on a word hunt in a book/magazine, etc.  By being able to write and find each sight word, your child is building a strong foundation for reading!

Math

In math, we are about to finish Module 1 and start Module 4.  In Module 1, we have been working on the following skills: attributes of two related objects, classifying to make categories and count, and working with numbers 0-10.  In Module 4, we will be working on number pairs and addition and subtraction to 10.  Please continue to work on counting to 100 by 1s and 10s and recognizing and writing numbers to 20 and beyond.

Scholastic Book Order

Please send a check or a money order for all book orders made to scholastic books.  I cannot accept cash.

  • January book orders are due on Friday, January 12th.
